The Art Of Diving In
In this episode, I explore the concept of "diving in" as a metaphor for embracing life's experiences, both pleasant and unpleasant, without attachment to specific outcomes. Drawing from a Zen kōan about a blind man with a lantern and observing my daughter learning to dive, I illustrate how we often hesitate to engage fully with life, waiting for ideal conditions rather than simply participating. The core teaching is that the process itself, the "diving in," is the goal, not a guaranteed pleasant result, whether in relationships, meditation, or simply existing. This perspective encourages us to become comfortable with discomfort, recognize the uniqueness of every moment, and act skillfully, understanding that true fulfillment comes from experiencing life fully, rather than trying to avoid its inevitable challenges.
