Unhappily Headed Towards Happiness
In this episode, I explore the idea of being "unhappily headed towards happiness" and how our own aversion to unpleasant experiences can be the root of our suffering, rather than the experiences themselves. I use the Zen koan "Bodhidharma's Beard" as a tool to question our attachments to identities and concepts, both about ourselves and others, encouraging us to find "no-self" in our perceived characteristics. This practice is applied to real-world situations, like a delayed flight, to illustrate how becoming comfortable with discomfort, rather than trying to avoid it, leads to greater peace. The episode also introduces the koan "The Real Miracle" as a contemplation on the simplicity of presence and mindful action.
