Right Livelihood
In this episode, I explore the concept of right livelihood, moving beyond a simple checklist of forbidden professions to a deeper consideration of how our work impacts our well-being and the well-being of others. I emphasize that right livelihood isn't about finding a perfect job, but rather about cultivating a skillful and ethical relationship with whatever work we do, acknowledging that most of us operate within real-world constraints like financial obligations. Key takeaways include assessing whether our work increases or reduces suffering, aligning our livelihood with our values, and considering how we show up to our jobs with presence and compassion, much like reading the conditions before paragliding. Ultimately, right livelihood is about the qualities we cultivate through our work and finding a middle way between purely transactional employment and the pressure of a singular "calling."
